Backs on a base
Post by timberlinemd on Jul 17th, 2013, 3:52pm

I'm trying different set-ups for base cabinets. I'm confused as to why I get a back height that is 1/4" less than the side height. Set up for no toe kicks. I'm recessing this back in 3/4" for blind nailers (screw strips).

The back height on base cabinet is figured as the cabinet height minus the toe kick height minus the bottom rail width plus the box material thickness.

This should give the back height so it runs from the top of the cabinet to the bottom of the bottom.

In the Base Standards you can enter a value for the Back Height Adjustment (+ or -) for the program to apply to all your base cabinets. Or you can set this individually per cabinet by pressing the More button in its editing window.

Rob,
Thanks for the clarity. Based on your formula, the program is not adding for 'bottom rail lip', if any. I'm used to setting the top of my bottoms a 1/4" below the bottom rails. This allows for some error in face frame construction.

As mentioned the 'adjustment' will produce the same results.

I'm finding the same issue. 30" face frame, 3/4" box mat'l, .125 bottom rail lip. Backs should be 29.375" and cut list puts them at 29.5" Not a big deal to set adjustments for individual cabinets but I have been known to forget to change one. smiley

Hmm, not sure why I didn't fix this back in 2013 but it will be fixed in the next release.
