Hanging Cabinets from soffit
Post by daytrader337 on Jan 22nd, 2011, 02:13am

Rob,
Just purchased your software and I do like it! As I was drawing a kitchen, projecting from one wall i a drop soffit that is connected to only one wall I have tried to generate a 0 thickness wall to hang the cabinets on ( there will be glass doors on each side so there is cabinets on each side of the walls. When i do a 3D there is the thin wall in the center through the base cabinets and blocks view of the rest of the kitchen. Is there a way to hang these cabinets and then lose the wall or hang cabinets from their tops.?? Yhanks for your help grin

If you haven't already done it, set the wall height to zero along with the thickness. I have done this and it makes the cabinets look like they are hanging in mid-air. See if that helps.

Is there a way to make small spice drawers for upper cabinets? do I have to draw in autocad and import or is there a way to make a custom cabinet (upper) with spice drawers. It can be a single unit or 2 one above the other , like a 2 door cabinet with a 4 drawer just below it Thanks I'm a rookie at this so any help would be greatly appreciated..

daytrader337, the only way I have been able to get this look is by using the Pencil Drawer under Misc. and setting height and width to something like 6x6. I usually set the stile/rail width to something smaller than std. so it is proportional to the size of the unit. I draw one of them and then import the rest of them. You can import a cabinet from the file you are working on, saves having to draw a bunch of them. There is a thread on the forum about importing cabinets, but the short of it is Go to File, Import Cabinet, select the file name of the file you are working on and it will bring up a list of cabinet numbers, just pick the one you just drew. You then only have to tell it the location, all else stays the same. The con to using the pencil drawer is it can't be combined, so your shop drawings show individual small cabinets, instead of one 30"w x 6" tall with four drawers. I attached a picture, if this is what you are looking for.

Rob, you might have a quicker way of doing this as you are far more knowledgeable than I regarding the program. If you don't have an option for doing this, would be a nice "wish list" item.

Hope this helps.

I'll try this, one row of drawers is all I need. Your pic is just what I want. Thanks again!
