Working with arched valance

Hey Rob hope all is well!
I am doing a built in and each section is going to have an arch abouve it.
Whe I in put the value of the arch it curles up at each end. Is there a way to make it start and finish with out having the extra curves in it?

If you set the length of the arch so it's the same as the width of the valance it shouldn't be very noticeable.

I tried that and am not getting the results I was looking for.
If I use a tall cab and set the upper rail wide and check the arch box I can get a good smooth arch.

I have also had a request for a round top arch or true arch. Is there anyway to accomplish that?

Have you tried combining two or more 1 Opening Uppers, maybe that would give you the look you need. The valance isn't really designed to match the arched top rail.

I am trying to seperate 5 cabinets with fluted columes and between each colume I wanted to have an arch.
I will mess somemore tonight with it and hopefully get it like I want!!

OK, then set the left and right stiles to zero and space the cabinets by the width of your fluted molding. I added some Upper Fillers for blocking at the top & bottom of the fluting.

For a 3" fluted molding set the scribe on the two outer sides to -3 and for the inside sides set it to -1.5 (or a little less for clearance). Also, instead of adding crown to each cabinet and filler I just used an Upper Filler set to zero height above the whole thing. This makes the crown look better since it isn't divided up into a bunch of pieces.

Rob, on your drawing above, if the fillers and fluting were pulled out 3/4 to 1" from the rest of the bookcases, can base and crown molding be wraped around the fillers on the exposed 3 sides?

Sure, though I usually keep the fluting back a little.
