How exactly does it work in cabinet planner?

Not very well. undecided

From the in-program help file:
Once you have established your base prices, press the button with "$$" on it and the program will compute a price for each cabinet according to the height, width and depth. These prices are based on your standard setting for each cabinet type. For instance, your standard upper cabinet height is 30, your standard depth is 12 and your base price is $40 per foot. If you plan a 12w x 30h x 12d upper, the price will be $40. If you increase any of the sizes by 23% the price will also increase by 23%. With a little experimenting you will have your job pricing done with the click of one button.

Its not consistent is there any way to base it on a linear foot price

Do you mean so that the price per foot says the same regardless of the cabinet's height or depth?

Yes, sort of.
Most base cabinets will be 21" 24" deep and uppers 12" so it would be easier if it was a linear foot with adjustments to the other sizes ... yes?
The LF cost could be marked up per material/door etc cherry vs. maple and flat panel vs. mitered applied molding.

How does it currently work for drawer units and if you custom build a cabinet not using a base or upper, but rather a tall custom with pull outs and doors along with DF's then the current is not close ... right?
Link in this post http://cabplanner.conforums.com/index.cgi?board=wish&action=display&num=1354665806 because you are basing the vanity which is a base with the drawers swapped with Doors, but using the tall custom pricing

If you adjust your Tall Custom price it should work. On my setup I have the Tall cabinet standard height set to 84" and the Base standard height of 34.5". Dividing 84 by 34.5 comes out to ~2.43, so I set the Base price to $100 per foot and the Tall Custom to $243(2.43 times the Base price) per foot. Comes out pretty close.

@ 34.5" high
Unit # 1 - 24.00" Base 200.00
Unit # 4 - 24.00" Tall Custom 199.61

@ 84" high
Unit # 2 - 24.00" Tall Custom 486.00
