My future kitchen
Post by edsaws on Nov 2nd, 2009, 10:15am

Here a couple views of the Kitchen I'm planning to build in the near future. The uppers will probably have raised panels or possibly a textured glass. Haven't decided yet. The 2nd view with the shelving unit will probably have some doors on the bottom and leave 2 or 3 shelves exposed. I'm also thinking of possible concrete counters. It's still a design in prgress. Let me know what you think.

That's a really nice kitchen design!!

One question: Have you given consideration to putting the refer in a cabinet enclosure?

That would be my only recommendation so as not to leave the fridge out in the open and thus tying that appliance into the rest of the cabinetry.

Just a thought; great kitchen either way! smiley

A look really popular here right now is the staggered heights.

Take your fridge cabinet all the way to the ceiling, and like the previous poster mentions, add a gable on each side.

Make your 24x24 angled upper corner into a 30x30 and take it to the ceiling

Make your Range cabinet go to the ceiling.

Fo the cabinets that go to the ceiling with the crown, you need to increase the depth of the sides to around 15" so the crown molding on the cabinets on each side has something to run into.

But, that is just my $0.02, and it doesnt hurt to take 2 minutes to model the chanes and see if your wife likes it.
I have a bunch of kitchens done like this on my website.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've modified it a little to your suggestions and like the outcome. What is considered a good space to leave around the refridge for ventalation?

Wow! Now that looks killer!!
I had forgotten about the staggered look which, yes, is in vogue where I'm from also. (Douglas, AZ)
The idea is to make the cabinets look more like furniture thus giving the kitchen a more custom and elegant look. Since that has become a major social area in many homes, why not give it some pizzazz.

For fridge space I leave at least one inch around the sides for a standard 36" size and 72" tall if the appliance is not available or chosen.

When the fridge or specs are available I try to leave a 1" space around the perimeter for a custom fitted look. Most refers these days require minimum venting space so the tolerances can be a lot closer.
