A lot has to do with the demand for kitchens and the competition around your area. Where I'm from it's tough since the demand isn't all that high. It's a very lucrative "hobby" for me as I've done this for many years as a side business and have not relied on it as my main source of income although I'd like it to be. To make "real" money at this you'd have to consistently produce a number of kitchens a month in order to cover costs and still make a decent profit. It's very rewarding, fun as can be, but, unfortunately, difficult to make it really profitable. of course this is just my opinion from my experience where I'm from. The important thing is to do what you love if you can make it work! Good luck in your endeavors.
