I was just wondering, and hope you'd all share, what kinds/brands of finishes you use on your cabinets and how applied(spayers, booths, pressure pots, etc.)

i use mainly sherwin-williams stain wipe on off and there med. rub pre cat clear coat sprayed from a pot. grin

ML Campbell Pre cat all sheens also thier paints and I have a booth and an airless sprayer and am thinking of getting an air assit sprayer.

M.L. Campbell finishes across the board. They have lacquers, clear and tinted; wipe on stains, spray on stains, water based products, HAPS compliant, low VOC products, etc.

Use Sherwin-Williams previous, switched to M.L. Campbell because of wider variety of product availability in my area.

Apply with double diaphragm pump conventional air sprayer. Use C.A. Technologies spray guns, have conventional spray gun, getting a HVLP gun in near future.

Thanks to those of you who have posted! I notice that ML Campbell is a popular choice, however I've never heard of it. Obviously this is a product that can not be purchased at a home center or I would have seen/heard of it. Where can one acquire this product or what dealers might carry it. I'm from AZ so I'm wondering if paint suppliers would carry this product. Thanks again!!

ML Campbell is a great choice. They dont have the best products in my opinion (they are very good though) but what they do have is a "complete finishing system". They have an excellent and very diverse product line up. They also target smaller shops with excellent technical support.

Really depends on the particular product.

I really like Becker Acroma solvent and waterborne clears and pigmented.

There is a local company who makes their own line of stains that are incredible.

I really like the ML Campbell Amazing Glaze and Amazing Stain.

Nothing wrong with the MLC stuff, I just find the Becker line a little better. Dries faster, seems harder, sands better, etc.

I would have to concur with Jeff regarding ML Campbells product line and excellent tech support. Just this past weekend my spray gun was giving me fits, I called my local ML Campbell supplier on Fri at 7:30pm and he called me and trouble shot over the phone, problem fixed and I was back to spraying primer for a tinted lacquer job...the tech support from them has been excellent and that goes a long way in my opinion, especially when I was just starting out and didn't know squat about sprayers, finishing systems, products, etc.

Sherwin Williams Precat Lacquer in dull or medium rubbed sheen. I spray that with my Graco airless sprayer. For stains I use Sherwin shur-wood. Best stain I have ever used.

We use ML campbell lacquer precat. and conversion varnish for amazing glaze. Asturo diaphragm pump HVLP gun. CAT. HVLP gravity feed for conversion varnish. Don't use conversion varnish in pump found out the hard way had to buy new hoses.Campbells has about any finish you want and great help line saved us more than once.

A new introduction to me recently was a "Lacquer Stain". I get it from Kwal Paint.

I love this and it is by far the easiest thing we have worked with in years and far les expensive than the Chemcraft we have been using. The shutter industry is primarily using it.

The best feature about this lacquer stain is the control you have. It is a spray stain but you spray it and time it. 5 min and wipe (lighter variation), 10 min and wipe or no wipe at all for really dark color. I have never used a stain that did not have to be wiped...but this stuff rocks! Then clearcoat ( with light sandings in between) and you have the smoothest finish ever...and possibly the darkest. Big time saver too!

Now if I could just improve my white finishes ( lacquers)...any ideas?

I am going to try something new this week
a water base lacquer Ill has made it a law to use it and we may be next so we will see if it holds up to solvent base

Do you have to change equip? I was wondering about water based products in some pumps and spray guns. Does anyone have any insight on that end of the water based products equation?

from what they are telling me we only need noncorosove gun and pick up tube
it can be run through HVLP, conventional guns, cupguns, or airless. guess that covers it all

They stopped allowing painters to use solovent based lacquers/paints in the field here in Ohio about a year ago. They still allow it in the cabinet shops with spray booths. Are they taking that away from you guys too?
