I'm a newbie so here is my question.

What is a door overlay?

A door overlay is how much a door extends past the cabinet opening unless the doors are inset (fit inside the cabinet opening)which then have no overlay .
An overlay can range anywhere from 1/2" to 1 1/4" (largest I've ever used) in 1/4" increments.
Door hinges are available for different standard overlays depending on the look you're after once the doors are mounted.
